Domain Rules Guide: Take Full Control of Your Proxy Routing
Contents

Vinea's smart routing handles most traffic automatically — domestic sites stay direct, overseas services go through proxy. But sometimes you need manual control over specific domains. That's what Domain Rules is for.

With Domain Rules, you can right-click any webpage and instantly add it to your Proxy List or Direct List. Changes take effect immediately, no need to toggle anything.

Scenario 1: Internal tools slowing down through proxy

You open Feishu (Lark) to check messages, but everything loads slower than usual. The reason? Feishu's domain is being routed through the proxy unnecessarily.

Fix it in 3 seconds:

  1. Right-click anywhere on the Feishu page
  2. Find Vinea Domain Rules in the context menu
  3. Click Add to Direct List

Done. Feishu now connects directly, bypassing the proxy entirely. Speed returns to normal.

This works for any domestic service — CNKI, Zhihu, Bilibili, or your company's internal tools. If a site shouldn't go through proxy, add it to the Direct List.

Scenario 2: Overseas service not going through proxy

You try to open ChatGPT or Google Scholar, but the page won't load. Smart routing should handle this automatically, but occasionally a domain isn't in the default list yet.

Fix it the same way:

  1. Right-click on the page
  2. Find Vinea Domain Rules
  3. Click Add to Proxy List

The domain is now forced through proxy. ChatGPT loads immediately.

This is useful for any overseas service that isn't auto-detected — new AI tools, academic databases, regional streaming services, or development APIs.

Scenario 3: Testing with a specific region's IP

If you work in product testing, QA, or ad verification, you may need certain websites to always go through a specific proxy node. Adding those test domains to the Proxy List ensures they never bypass the proxy, even in Smart Mode.

How to manage your domain rules

All your custom rules are managed in one place:

  1. Open the Vinea extension
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Click Domain Rules

You'll see two sections:

  • Proxy List — domains forced through proxy
  • Direct List — domains forced to connect directly

Each domain has a delete button. To remove a rule, just click the × next to it.

To change a domain from Proxy to Direct (or vice versa), simply right-click the page again and choose the new option. The old rule is replaced automatically.

How priority works

Domain Rules follow a clear priority order:

Direct List > Proxy List > System Rules

This means:

  • If a domain is in your Direct List, it always connects directly — no matter what
  • If a domain is in your Proxy List, it goes through proxy — unless it's also in the Direct List
  • If a domain isn't in either list, Vinea's default smart routing decides

Tips

  • Instant effect: Rules apply immediately after you add them. No need to disconnect and reconnect
  • Domain-level: Rules apply to the entire domain and all its subdomains. Adding example.com also covers sub.example.com
  • Persistent: Rules are saved in your browser and persist across sessions. They stay until you delete them
  • Works in both modes: Domain Rules work in both Smart Mode and Global Mode

FAQ

Q1: Can I add rules from the management page?

No. Rules can only be added by right-clicking on the actual webpage. The management page is for viewing and deleting rules.

Q2: What if I add the same domain to both lists?

The Direct List always wins. If a domain appears in both, it will connect directly.

Q3: Will my rules sync across devices?

Rules are stored locally in your browser profile. They don't sync across devices. If you use the same Chrome Profile on multiple devices, the rules stay on the device where they were created.
